Cerberus Shoal
Mr. Boy Dog
The long out-of-print double-album opus by the indefatigable and indescribable collective, Cerberus Shoal, saw the band’s integration as a true six-piece band bear its most varied and obscure fruits yet. Originally released in 2002, Mr. Boy Dog was the densest and most willfully bizarre album of the band’s career to that point (a distinction they would embrace and redouble for the remainder of their existence). With an even more pronounced passion for Captain Beefheart, Middle Eastern folk, and leftfield jazz, Mr. Boy Dog marked the end of Cerberus Shoal’s many transitional phases, settling into a kind of avant-folk-rock that found the band at the bleeding edge of the New Weird America, from which like-minded artists such as No-Neck Blues Band, Akron/Family, and Sunburned Hand of the Man emerged.
