Tweez (35th Anniversary Edition)
On October 25, 2024, Touch and Go Records released Tweez (35th Anniversary Edition) as a deluxe 180-gram white 2xLP packaged in a gatefold jacket with two full-color heavyweight inner sleeves. As with all previous Slint reissues, the art direction, design and layout were done by Temporary Residence Ltd. founder, Jeremy deVine. As such, we have 100 copies available to sell in our store. This edition is strictly limited, and the copies that we have are the lowest numbers available to the public: #55 through #155. These will be sold on first-come first-serve basis.
Of the art direction and package design, deVine says: “I always enjoy working with Slint. They’re good friends and their music has been a foundational presence in my life. The process of making this Tweez deluxe edition was one of the most rewarding projects that I’ve made with Slint. To paraphrase Britt Walford, “it was like focusing a camera.” It was also especially meaningful for me as it was one of the last things that I got to make with Steve Albini. Steve was a dear friend, confidant, collaborator, and fellow root beer enthusiast. The hole he has left is still almost impossible to process. We briefly considered removing the liner notes from Tweez as I had envisioned them as sort of a playful call and response between Steve and original Slint bassist, Ethan Buckler, who had infamously departed the band following the recording of Tweez, which he viewed as disappointing and not representative of his perception of Slint. Ultimately we decided that it’s actually even funnier to keep the liner notes now, and in retrospect I’m really grateful for that decision, as it gives us another opportunity to immortalize Steve’s voice. Thank you to Slint and Touch and Go for trusting me with their work all these years, and thank you to everyone who supports it."
LP1: Tweez. Originally recorded by Steve Albini and released in 1989, Tweez has been remastered by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Studio from the original analog master tapes.
LP2: Tweethan Mix. Per Ethan Buckler (Slint bassist on Tweez), “Finally - after thirty-five long years - the other guys in Slint decided to be nice to me and let me have my Tweez remix. I complained incessantly back in the day about how the Albini production style ruined our first recording.” In 2023, Ethan took the original multi-track recordings to a local studio in Louisville. Upon handing the engineer a copy of a pre-Tweez Slint practice tape, he said “Make it sound like this.” LP2 of this Tweez (35th Anniversary Edition) is the result. Mastered by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Studio.
Liner notes by Steve Albini and Ethan Buckler.
